The Six True Words:
What are the Six True Words? What is their significance and why does Crystal Chicks use it in its designs?
Early on we stumbled across a reference to “The Six True Words” and got very curious about what they were and what they meant. Often we’ve seen it written as Om Mani Padme Hum. But what initially caught our attention is that different colors are associated with each syllable – white, red, yellow, green, blue and black and we became certain that we were to incorporate these colors into our pieces.
The Six True Words is a mantra or prayer used for thousands of years. It doesn’t require any previous training and is open to being used by anyone. There are six (6) syllables:
Om Ma Ni Pad Me Hum
pronounced – “om mah knee peh may hum”
We wanted to learn about the mantra and naturally wanted to know what it means, and looked for a translation.
One aspect we've noticed that some people who are attracted to our pieces are hesitant to use anything that might be a prayer to some deity that they do not honor. We thought that some further explanation might be useful.
The words that are used to describe the phrase "Six True Words" can be heard by some that the "true" implies that everything else is false. What we've discovered in all the translations is that "true" is used more in the vein of "pure", "originial sound", "primordial language." Words that express authentic meaning before our man-made layers of meaning are applied.
What we’ve discovered is that due to this aspect, the mantra, Om Mani Padme is without a universal translation but it has many interpretations. It has been referred to as the mantra of Compassion in the Buddhist tradition as well as serving as one of the major mantras used when setting intention on a feng shui adjustment or cure. But it is more a reminder of aligning with the higher aspects of sprituality rather than religion.
To paraphrase of an article written by Gen Rinpoche- there are six practices
from generosity (Om), to pure ethics (Ma), to tolerance (Ni) to perseverance (Pad) to concentration (Me) to wisdom (Hum).
The interpretation Crystal Chicks has aligned with our creations is that like light being comprised of the seven colors of the spectrum, the spectrum of truth can be seen in the meaning of the Six True Words. Thus by incorporating the frequency of the Six True Words into your Crystal Chicks pieces, we intend that the use of the additional colors amplifies the power of each piece.
